2 bursts of wind coming through Michigan today and Friday; Here’s timeline – MLive.com

Two swaths of moderate wind gusts are going to move across Michigan in the next 36 hours. The gusts won’t be damaging, but something to know if you have a late fall outdoor building project that is vulnerable to wind gusts.
The cold front is coming through Lower Michigan this afternoon and evening. Before the cold front, the first batch of wind gusts will move across all of Lower Michigan. Here’s a forecast showing the band of strongest gusts.
Wind gust forecast from noon today to 8 p.m. this evening.
The strongest gusts will blow from a somewhat rare direction- out of the south. Most of Michigan’s strongest wind gusts blow from the southwest to west.
Again, the gusts won’t be damaging. Most locations will have a peak wind gust around 40 mph. That may be strong enough to break a dead tree limb, and come down on a powerline. Only isolated power outages are expected right now.
The winds will lighten up overnight to 15 mph. As the cold air comes in Friday, another burst of 35 mph gusts will sweep across the southern half of Lower Michigan.
Wind gust forecast from 4 a.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Friday.
The second round of wind gusts will last longer at any one spot. Expect three to six hours of wind gusts around 35 mph at all locations in the southern half of Lower Michigan. Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Kalamazoo will have the 35 mph gusts for a shorter time early Friday morning. Lansing and Jackson will have the gusts from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. The east side of Lower Michigan, including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, Saginaw and Bay City will have the 35 mph gusts from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
The second round of gusts will be colder, but still blow from the south and eventually southwest.
The weekend will be breezy, but with gusts only to 20 mph. Those gusts will come with wintry temperatures, however.
