A New Mexico State Police veteran officer was injured in a shooting near Sedillo Hill Friday morning.
The shooting happened at Gas Mart near State Road 333 and milepost 15.
The officer, who has not been named, was called out to the gas station for criminal activity.
When he arrived, he called for backup, but went on to make contact with the suspect.
The officer’s car was hit, and the suspect fled, in which he pulled a pit maneuver, and exchanged gunfire. The NMSP officer was shot once, according to police.
Police add there was another woman in the car.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital where they are listed in stable condition. He is expected to be OK.
Police believe the two suspects that were involved in the shooting, are in custody. Police have not identified the suspects and say they need to continue questioning them.
The scene is active and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
