ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman was seriously injured late Saturday when she was struck by an Orlando patrol car near downtown, according to the police department.
The Orlando Police Department said one of its patrol units struck the 27-year-old woman around 11:45 p.m. while she was crossing East Colonial Drive at North Orange Avenue against a “Do Not Walk” signal into the path of oncoming traffic.

The officers in the marked patrol car were responding to a report of an in-progress armed robbery to a person and had the cruiser’s lights activated when the car struck the woman, police said.
Officials said the woman was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The department said the investigation is active and ongoing.
An Uber driver who was close to dropping off a passenger witnessed the crash.
“I was horrified,” said the driver, who wants to remain anonymous. “I was struggling with what more could I do.
The drive said she still doesn’t know how to process the accident.
“As I’m sitting there in shock, my poor rider is in shock,” she said. “Like, we didn’t expect that.”
